Social Anxiety:  Why Cognitive Therapy is More

Effective Than Exposure

Presented by:

Exposure and response prevention (ERP) is the most popular form of CBT for anxiety disorders.  But research has found that Cognitive Therapy is more effective than exposure for social anxiety.  This workshop will focus on cognitive techniques that are effective in treating social anxiety, and will also explain why Cognitive Therapy is more effective that ERP for social anxiety.

Learning Objectives:

1.         Describe 4 effective, common techniques for treating social anxiety.

2.         Describe 2 new techniques for treating social anxiety.

3.         Explain why ERP is less effective than Cognitive Therapy for social anxiety.

4.         Cite research findings on adding medication to CBT for social anxiety.
